Objectives
1. Vascular Access and Wide Sterile barrier : examine the regulatory requirements regarding safe central Iv access and observe techniques for using ultrasound and wide sterile barrier.
2. Hands-on vascular Access, Ultrasound Guidance, and Wide Sterile barrier : Practice demonstrated techniques using non-human tissue models.
3. Non-vascular Procedures Review : the technical steps to safely perform paracentesis and thoracentesis.
4. Hands-on Procedure Practice : Practice demonstrated techniques using synthetic models.
5. Procedure Center: The Core of a Proceduralist operation Study the infrastructure required to support a proceduralist service.

Pre-Conference Course 2
Practical Inpatient Billing and Coding
Course Director: Yvette Cua, MD

Objectives
1. Documentation Guidelines : examine the 1995 and 1997 centers for medicare and medicaid Services (cmS) documentation guidelines and evaluate examples of lost revenue and unnecessary down-coding.
2. Documentation and Compliance: Admission, Discharge, and Follow-up : Describe admission and discharge rules (including how they apply to teaching facilities) and differentiate well- worded medical record statements compared to inadequate word selection.
3. Critical Care billing and Documentation : explain criteria for billing critical care codes as well as the documentation required to ensure compliance.
4. Effective and required Use of CPT Codes and modifiers : explain appropriate and required use of cPt codes and modifiers.
5. Small Group Case Studies : Apply guidelines and billing rules to concrete examples in interactive sessions with faculty. Institutional specific questions and inquiries are encouraged.
